One thing before I go I guess

The city is a dream (though not a normal one), and Patient 23 is the dreamer in the real world. Three aspects of the dreamer, manifested as seperate entities in this city. Bedlam wants everyone to go insane together. Echo wants to wake the dreamer, so that everything may end. Lucid just wants people to keep living properly. Lucid is the one who directed people to give you the bear. Dunno the timeline. Maybe don't drink water from the pipes, it might have Nightmare Fuel in it. Ask Axiom.

Dunno honestly. I've only read the first book, but things turned out pretty alright in the end, in a sort of 'everything comes together just right' kinda way. Might fuck it up.

Department of Safety leader is a Bedlam cultist, planning on putting Nightmare Fuel in the water supply to drive everyone insane. There's some rando Dave Smith who's going to end up drawing a map of the Sideways so that people can find the heart of the city. DOS people end up getting the map. There's a father-daughter pair of Sideways Explorers. Penelope, the daughter, is the human incarnation of Lucid, though she might not be aware of it at this point in time. Killing or calming down Picassos(insanified people) will make Bedlam pretty pissed at you, she considers all of them her friends.

the way it plays out in the book is Bedlam gets the map (slightly unfinished) Bedlam goes for the heart, Penelope go after. Bedlam can't make the last leg because Dave didn't fully finish the map. Bedlam ambushed Penelope's team in the Sideways. Penelope realizes she's Lucid. Makes a sorta truce with Bedlam. No more trying to insanify the whole city.

If you wanna find Dave...

There's some guy named Hollister. He works charity in the Department of Orientation. Apparently everyone knows him, for some reason. Pretty good chances you can find him if you ask around. He should know where Dave is at probably.

All good to know. So, since things played out ridiculously well originally, here's my thoughts on what I could do: 1. Find Hollister, since the guy's network is apparently that ridiculous 1a. Set Veils on dealing with the Nightmare Fuel problem 2. Find Dave, get him to ditch the incomplete map somewhere and never draw another one where the DoS can see it 3. Maybe make a booby trap in the Sideways for Bedlam? Alternatively I could try to find and speedread the books, then cut off problems that'll crop up down the line while still siccing Veils on the Nightmare Fuel problem since it sounds like thats a slightly lower priority for Bedlam

1. Feasible, probably. 1a. Also feasible. Of course, the NF problem still contributed to timing and stuff for the heart of the city plan. Could possibly throw things off anyway? Make that definitely, since DOS head guy is the right hand man of Bedlam, and is involved in getting the map too. 2. Just get him to stop emailing Penelope with frequent updates and pictures on how the map is going, honestly. The DOS knew when it was about done because of that. (Dave doesn't know it's a map, he thinks it's a logo requested by the Lucid Corporation.) And you'll have to stop him from getting kidnapped too. 3. I'm not sure that's feasible. Bedlam clearly isn't omniscient, but the Sideways are her territory, even if she can't find the heart for some reason. (edited)

The area I'm coming up on looks something like a planetoid. Rough-looking, has a temple on it, though.

There were a few other areas I passed, one with a bunch of bats trading stuff and another that looked like a 5d chessboard or something.

The source mind? Not normally. Sometimes it can be a spell matrix of some sort, though, which can have an effect on you if you use it. Or someone else.

This is primarily designed to be used on yourself, after all.

Thinking back to Bag a Legend, where Veils gets turned from a 'What' to a 'Why' via parabolan destruction, the three primary aspects of Veils that survived were Veils of the Surface, who was a shapeshifting spymaster, Veils of the Third City, where it ritually sacrificed Mr Candles and made Mr Eaten, and Curator Veils, who was based on itself before it became a Master, the various areas I've seen thus far probably correlates with these aspects of Veils due to them being the strongest parts of it.

So I've got options on where to search for a silver bullet.
